Volunteer at SkyRise Chicago

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SkyRise Chicago, benefitting the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Our volunteers are a crucial element to making this event successful. For more information please see some frequently asked questions below.

We have volunteer opportunities for packet pick up and event day. Please submit your information via the volunteer survey and we will confirm your spot. Please note, all volunteers will be required to submit proof of vaccination. For any questions, please email [email protected].

Who can volunteer?

We encourage volunteers of all ages and abilities to get involved! Individuals and groups are welcome to volunteers. Collegiate medical affiliate groups are especially important to our event. High School groups must email [email protected] prior to registering your students. We have a VERY limited number of high school spots available.

What do volunteers do?

SkyRise Chicago volunteers help in every aspect of the event: packet pick up, volunteer registration, water/food stations, gear check, stair marshals, crowd control, and hand cycling.

What times are available?

Volunteers must be able to volunteer for the entire duration of the event. Volunteers will need to report in between 5:00 am and 5:30 am. This ensures us enough time to provide everyone breakfast, instructions and get everyone into their respective position. Climbers start arriving by 6:00 am. The event is over at 1:00 pm. Volunteers will be released from their assignment once it is completed.

Can I climb and volunteer?

Unfortunately, we do not allow climbers to volunteer; or vice versa. Our volunteers must be able to volunteer for the duration of the event.

What should I wear?

Volunteers will be provided with a SkyRise Chicago Volunteer T-shirt to put on for the event. We also encourage volunteers to wear comfortable pants, capris or shorts, and closed toed shoes (gym shoes encouraged). It will get very warm in the building as the day goes on so please dress accordingly.

Can I still fundraise for the event?

Yes! If you’d like to volunteer and fundraise for SkyRise Chicago, you can! Create a team or register as an individual (virtual climber). This allows you to use the fundraising website and tools provided upon registration – personalize your page with a photo, text, and upload email contacts.

Will food be provided?

Yes. Volunteers will receive some snacks but a meal will not be provided.  Volunteers are allowed to take snacks into the stairwell and to other posts with them, there will be light snacks such as granola bars and fresh fruit available the morning of the event.

Will I be able to access the Skydeck during the event?

Unfortunately we are unable to provide our volunteers access to the Willis Tower Skydeck during the event.

Will parking be available?

Yes, parking will be available at a discounted rate.
